Life is moving along here

So finally, I can do things around here that are LOOOOONG overdue. Remember this story about my lamp being out in my bedroom and me being too lazy to replace it. Well, lo and behold, I made a trip today to Target and got a new lamp. I also did something I never ever do, I bought clothing articles from Target. I just needed something cheap for my upcoming travels. I also bought a bunch of things in fun size, to be able to take them in my carry-on luggage. I just cannot travel without shampoo and conditioner and saline solution and toothpaste, and I do not feel comfortable only having those things in my luggage, just in case. I have to have a backup plan in case my luggage gets lost. I just don't want to smell, OK?

I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to have light again in my bedroom so I can read before I go to bed, and I can find things without openning the closets and turning on the closet lights. It was getting a little sad and pathetic. I was the little pauper without the light in the bedroom. Life is grand again here, and it's moving along according to the plan. The plan of having light all the time!

Because he lives in the gay timezone

J: Call Bill.
D: I can't call him now, it's too late. It's 11 PM!
J: It's not late for him, he's gay!

Time, that's all I need

The lamp in my bedroom has been broken for over a month. I have limited usage of my bedroom to only sleep, which really is all that a bedroom's pupose is. Trust me, other things that may be traditionally deemed to be bedroom activities, may be moved to the living room. Dirty bastards, I am talking about getting dressed, yeah, yeah, getting dressed.

But I used to enjoy reading before going to bed, something that is impossible to do after midnight without a functioning lamp. I would have attempted to fix the lamp, seeing as I have already gone out of my way and caused myself much inconvenience by trying to replace the bulb only to discover that it's not the problem. Said lamp was of course something I purchased while I was in college, i.e., at least 4 years ago. I'm pretty sure I bought it while still in undergrad and not grad school, i.e, at least 5.5 years ago. Well, I would care to go buy another one, if this were the good old days when I cared about such things as taking a shower everyday, or using deodorant. Aren't you sad you're not here with me?

I think it's time I say goodbye to the good old lamp that at a young age, while functional managed to kill and collect quite the impressive amount of dead bugs. In fact, every once in a while when I listened really hard, I could hear the little buggers get zapped. Genocide, right there, in my bedroom. How cool is that? Actually, it was quite dramatic. Sometimes, if I sit really still in the dark, waiting to fall asleep, I could still hear the bugs scream "EEEEEEEEEEEP" as they meet their death, being zapped by a bulb with at least double the allowable wattage. Hey, I need the light! Yes, there's a little trace of guilt that lingers in my heart when I think about the little bugs, growing up without their mommy or daddy bug because someone decided that a bedroom needed a halogen light, instead of a good old little lamp on the night stand. Oh well! Life goes on. Well, except for the dead bugs!

Insomnia and finals are no fun...

For the past few days I've had a chronic case of insomnia, and let me tell you, it's not fun. I'm not sure why this is happening. First, I thought that my stress about my criminal law final may be the cause, and anyone who has taken criminal law with the professor I have would understand why I would think so. But then, last night, after being done with that final, I thought, that's it, I'm going to sleep like a baby. Well, look at this, it's almost 2 am, and I'm sitting here posting an entry on my blog.

To add to the fun of insomnia, I have this great ability to pick up the most annoying rythmic sounds and make sure I don't miss a bit of them, that way, I can stay up even later and not fall asleep. For example, the people above me, move a lot, and their floors are squeaky, so I'm making sure I don't miss one movement they make. That way, I can curse them up and down for every squeak they make.

But the funnest part of all of this experience is the smoke alarm in the hallway outside my apartment. Apparently the sad little thing is running low on battery, so it's making that chirpy noise, which is really annoying. And, of course I listen and make sure I don't miss a chirp, that way I have something to curse at every 28 seconds. What I really want to do is set the little bastard on fire. Then we'll see who's boss. Of course that would be against the law probably. Like that one Friends episode where Phoebe's smoke alarm was doing that and she threw it away, then a fireman brought it back. Oh, now wouldn't that be nice? Have a fireman come over. I'm sure that'll fix my insomnia. Oooh, naughty ideas...

Anyway, a friend suggested I change the battery in the smoke alarm, and I said no. Now you see, I'm not cheap, and it's not at all the cost of the damn battery. It's the principle, it's basic property law. As my property professor (aka, my Property God) has taught us, things in the common area are the responsibility of the landlord. I'm just doing what my professor told me to do. Aw, I miss him already. Not that I'm not going to miss my criminal law professor, but I'm going to have him next semester, hopefully for one class only, unless I fail crim law and have to take it again, now that would bite!
